Farewell then, Catastrophe (Channel 4). For the past four years, it has been one of the most sharply observed, scabrously funny comedies on TV, acutely nailing the messy reality of relationships and parenting. Now it has bowed out after a fraught, bittersweet finale. We might not appreciate quite how great Catastrophe was until it doesn’t return.

Since the mighty Carrie Fisher – who played Mia, mother of Rob (Rob Delaney) – died before this fourth and final series was filmed, Catastro-phans have wondered how the Bafta-winning show would deal with her sad absence. Now we found out and it was deftly, tenderly handled.
