Jurgen Klopp hailed his side’s nerveless reaction to Fulham’s equaliser as James Milner’s late penalty secured a “sensational result” for Liverpool.
Klopp’s side were facing the prospect of a fifth draw in eight Premier League games after Ryan Babel capitalised on a defensive error to cancel out Sadio Mane’s first-half opener for the visitors.
But Milner’s 81st-minute penalty, won after Fulham goalkeeper Sergio Rico fouled Mane, moved Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table.
“Average game, sensational result,” said Klopp. “I did not see us panic. I liked how we reacted. We are long enough now in this situation to know it is difficult for other teams to beat us. That gives us opportunities to win it.
“In most of the draws we have had, we have been closer to winning the games, so we know another chance will come.
“We controlled the game completely, and then we gave Fulham the ball and the crowd woke up. But we had a very intense week, going to Munich, coming back, travelling to London, so I am completely fine.”
