Chelsea look to older heads to step up as in-form Mason Mount faces spell on sidelines

The game against Liverpool represents Chelsea’s biggest test of the season so far, with Lampard’s team still yet to register a victory at Stamford Bridge.
But the club can take heart from their Uefa Super League performance, despite losing on penalties, and may also be helped by the fact Liverpool had to travel to Napoli in the Champions League for a game they lost.
“The big games bring the best out of all the players,” said Barkley. “As you’ve seen in the Super Cup Final and how well we performed in that game, and we can perform to those levels again on Sunday and, hopefully, it goes our way.”
Leaders Liverpool are the only club to have collected maximum points from their first five league games, but Barkley said: “Every side is beatable on the day. It just comes down to hard work, putting extra yards in, being clinical as well and a bit of luck.”
Chelsea have been inconsistent in the league and yet are level on points with Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Arsenal. “We’re joint-third,” said Barkley. “We’re not doing badly. We won last weekend, scoring goals. We’ve got a confident bunch of lads in the team. We’ve got a big game on Sunday and we’re confident we can win the game.”
