So far in 2019 attention has been focused on domestic matters, the race for the Premier League title, the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revolution and whether Manchester City can complete a famous quadruple.
Yet for those yearning for last year’s seemingly endless summer where the country bathed in both the heat and the Three Lions’ run to the semi-finals of the World Cup, it’s time to dip back into the world of international football. The waistcoat will probably be gone but Gareth Southgate enters back into our lives this month for the start of Euro 2020 qualification.
Today seems him name his squad for the first of those two matches, starting with the Czech Republic at home on March 22 before an away trip to Montenegro three days later.
Southgate’s been busy casting his eyes over a plethora of games in recent weeks, taking stock of the fitness and availability of his players. We’ll shortly see the conclusions he came to. Stand by for the team announcement around 2pm.
