“The glass ceiling has definitely cracked,” Reverend Angela Berners-Wilson said, “but not everybody accepts us.”

Despite the many advancements in equality that the Church of England has seen in the past few years, its first female priest believes there is always room for further progress.

In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph marking the 25th anniversary of the ordination of women, Reverend Berners-Wilson said “it’s amazing how much has changed” – as she revealed that one female parishioner still refuses to take communion from her.  

Reverend Berners-Wilson was, alphabetically, the first in line when the first 32 women lined up at Bristol Cathedral in 1994 to become women priests.
