Jacket belonging to missing backpacker Catherine Shaw found in Guatemala

A jacket belonging to Catherine Shaw, the British backpacker missing in Guatemala, has been found in the town  where she was last seen.

The pink and brown woven coat was found on Monday and pictured in undergrowth. The discovery has prompted renewed searches in the area of San Juan La Laguna.

Miss Shaw, 23, from Witney, Oxfordshire, had been travelling in Guatemala for two weeks having previously visited Mexico and California.

She was last seen leaving the Eco Hotel in Mayachik, between San Pedro and San Juan, shortly before 5.30am on Tuesday, carrying a stray puppy.

The puppy was found shivering and alone at the highest lookout of Indian Nose, a volcano overlooking Lake Atitlan, San Pedro and San Juan between 5am and 6am on Friday morning. The lake has been searched by specialist divers.

Rescuers have called on travellers who could have been mistaken for Miss Shaw to come forward so they can be ruled out.
