The general consensus is, however, that Meire has been a steady influence at Hillsborough and, in her words, “away from the forefront of the club compared to my previous club”.
“There have been things at Sheffield Wednesday, if we communicate sometimes difficult things, people are OK with it. If the same would be communicated at Charlton, it would have been perceived very differently,” she muses.
“To be fair, the chairman up until now at Sheffield Wednesday only appointed foreign managers. We obviously had this famous fans’ forum a month ago and all they wanted was someone with a proven track record in the Championship. The chairman, in his mind, has said ‘well you asked for it, you got it’. Everyone knows what Steve can bring to the club, we’re very excited about him.”
As for today’s game, Meire is staying tight-lipped about the score prediction regarding her tequila-shots wager, only that she is backing her own team.
“A game of football is a very innocent way of enjoying something in your life, it can help people through difficult times.” she adds.
