Laurent Koscielny has been taken to hospital with a suspected broken jaw to add to Arsenal’s injury crisis.
The defender landed awkwardly and appeared to be accidentally kicked in the head by Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku during the FA Cup fourth-round tie between the two teams.
After a long delay as Koscielny was treated on the pitch – which contributed to 10 minutes of added time being played – the Arsenal captain was eventually substituted and appeared in severe pain.
Manager Unai Emery, who also lost Sokratis to an ankle injury, an apparent twist, later confirmed that Koscielny had been taken to hospital.
“I hope they are not two big injuries,” he said. “Sokratis hurt his ankle – I hope not a lot. Koscielny is different. It was maybe a break. I hope not but he’s going to the hospital and we’re going to wait.” Asked specifically where it was feared Koscielny had suffered a break Emery ran his hand across his jaw. “He is going to the hospital for analysis,” he added. “Maybe he has a break, I hope not.”
