A man was killed and four other people injured when a tree fell on their car as they were driving home this evening.
Firefighters, ambulance crews and police were called to the A308 road in Egham, Surrey shortly after 4pm when the large tree toppled into the road and landed on top of the silver coloured Lexus car in which all five were travelling.
Police said that the man who died was a passenger in the car and he was certified dead at the scene. The driver and the other three passengers were all treated in hospital for minor injuries.
A spokesman for Surrey Police said tonight: “A man has sadly died after a tree fell on the car in which he was travelling in Egham earlier today.
“The collision occurred around 4.05pm on the A308 Windsor Road at the junction with the Runnymede roundabout. One of the passengers was pronounced dead at the scene. The four other occupants in the car have been taken to hospital where they are receiving treatment for minor injuries.
“The road is currently closed while emergency services, including ambulance and fire crews, deal with the incident. Anyone who witnessed the what happened, particularly anyone with dashcam footage who was driving along the road prior to the collision, is asked to contact us straightaway on 101,” said the spokesman.
