Marcos Rojo likely to be first casualty of Manchester United plans to strengthen centre of defence

The England defender has returned to form under Solskjaer but, like Rojo, has struggled to stay injury free, which has become a cause for concern. Bailly is contracted until June 2020 and is another who has had a glut of injury problems.

Rojo’s future looks particularly bleak, though, and Solskjaer offered a pessimistic forecast on the player last week. “He has gone back to Argentina for a while because of his injury,” he said. “How long will he be out for? How long is a piece of rope. For him it was mentally important to go away and come back fresh again.”

Meanwhile, the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust have urged Arsenal to offer almost double their allocation of 5,000 tickets for next week’s FA Cup fourth-round tie at the Emirates Stadium.
