New enterprise keeping cars – and people – off the scrapheap

Down in sleepy Bridgwater, Somerset, something amazing just happened. A new classic car garage workshop opened its doors – but it’s not any new garage.

This one doesn’t aim just to bring rusty, forgotten old cars back to life; it aims to breathe new life into people who feel they have been lost, forgotten and consigned to the scrapheap, too.

Vince Davis, who established Rusty Road 2 Recovery, says: “I was diagnosed schizophrenic at the age of 14.

“I’ve been through the system, I’ve had some very bad times when I just couldn’t find help. Eventually I found an all-day help group arranging flowers and stuff. It wasn’t my thing, but it gave me the feeling of achieving things. That helped me to get better.”

Once recovered, Vince’s messianic drive to help others inspired friends and contacts to rally round and support his dream to create a place where, by bringing cars back from oblivion, they can also bring people back.
