Notts County owner Alan Hardy has announced he has “very reluctantly” put the club up for sale but insisted the current league position, nor the current social media headlines surrounding him, are factors behind his decision.
Hardy took over as chairman of Notts County in January 2017 but his team are currently bottom of League Two, eight points from safety.
The announcement on the club website, in which Hardy cited a need to focus on his external business portfolio, came hours after he had apologised for posting an intimate photo on Twitter on Sunday morning.
The statement read: “After considerable soul-searching, I no longer feel I can continue as the owner of Notts County Football Club.
“I would like to make it clear from the outset that the club’s current league position is not a factor in this decision, nor are any of the events which have unfolded in the media this weekend.
