When singer-songwriter Odette decided to record with fellow Australian Gretta Ray, she knew the song would be special.
And the result, A Place That I Don’t Know, is just that.
Marking the first time that both artists have worked together, the single is a display of Odette’s soulful delivery which is complimented and harmonised beautifully by Ray’s dulcet vocal.
The song is taken from Odette’s debut album To a Stranger, A Place That I Don’t Know is the latest instalment from the young artist, following on from Take It to the Heart and Lotus Eaters.
They perform the song in an exclusive music session on Telegraph.co.uk (above).
Discussing the song and collaboration, Odette said: “A Place That I Don’t Know is about being hurt and feeling isolated from your own home.
“It’s about yearning for a love that’s let you down and trying to rebuild from something you didn’t even destroy.
“I wrote this for me and Gretta to duet because her tone truly conveys the emotion I was trying to reach in this song.
“Gretta was so kind and supportive and really empathised with her own experiences in her own life. It was a really cathartic and beautiful experience.”
Ray added: “I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to sing on an Odette song. A Place That I Don’t Know is yet another song of hers that completely consumed me at first listen… the way that she conveys the emotions evoked by the song’s narrative through what is such a powerful yet equally vulnerable vocal tone gave me full body shivers, and I am just so thankful to have been involved in the making of such an exquisite, special track.”
