Rashford’s shot count this season has doubled since Solskjaer took temporary charge and the caretaker manager – who is preparing to welcome back forward Anthony Martial and midfielders Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera from injury against Arsenal – believes the striker has the ability to become a prolific goalscorer.
But Solskjaer believes Rashford must take a lead from Lukaku – and the former United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo – by spending longer sniffing out chances in the penalty area in order to boost his goals tally.
“I keep battering him with it that he also should score as many goals as Rom after the training session has finished,” Solskjaer said. “He should always get those simple tap ins, finishes from close range, like Rom scored in the last few games.
“Rashy’s goals are sometimes worldies and he does have a sensational strike of the ball but you see the improvement, maturity and change in Cristiano’s goals from when he was young to now – he scores more from inside the box – and that’s what Rashy has to do.
