The veteran actress Bette Midler has announced that she will perform at Sunday’s Oscars ceremony.
The 73-year-old singer will sing The Place Where Lost Things Go (from Mary Poppins Returns) at the awards ceremony. Writing on Twitter, she declared herself “so excited”.
The song, nominated in the Best Original Song category, was performed on screen by Emily Blunt. Blunt has made no comment on Midler’s participation yet, but she has spoken previously about her own fear of performing in front of live audiences.
Marc Shaiman, one of the song’s writers, was enthusiastic: “As a child of the Sixties, I grew up obsessed with the Mary Poppins soundtrack.
“As a teenager in the Seventies, I became obsessed with new star Bette Midler… My heart is exploding!”
