Tirreno-Adriatico 2019 – stage five results and standings: Adam Yates finishes second to stretch overall lead

Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) won the fifth stage at Tirreno-Adriatico while race leader Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) came home second to extend his overall classification lead.

Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) finished third on the day as Yates’ lead over Roglic expanded from seven seconds to 25.

Fuglsang moved up to third in the GC, dropping Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb) to fourth.

Fuglsang broke from a group of favourites with around 24km to go and worked his way up to join the remaining riders from the day’s breakaway. He eventually dropped them to take the final 10km alone.

Tirreno-Adriatico continues on Monday with the 195km sixth stage from Matelica to Jesi and concludes the following day with a 10km individual time trial around San Benedetto del Tronto.
