Uber is opening a new front in its battle with Deliveroo by creating kitchens dedicated to the company’s food delivery app.
Uber Eats is piloting a scheme in Paris in which it lets out shared and fully equipped commercial kitchens to restaurants.
Shared kitchens, which do not cater to walk-in diners but exist solely to serve deliveries, wer first introduced by London-based food delivery competitor Deliveroo in Paris and London in 2017.
Uber opened a test kitchen in the Parisian suburb of Saint-Ouen and intends to expand the programme internationally to other markets, potentially in the US and or Latin America, according to a person familiar with the plans.
