West Bromwich Albion are targeting Slavisa Jokanovic and David Wagner after taking the controversial decision to sack Darren Moore, with the club fourth in the Championship.
Moore was dismissed in the dressing room 30 minutes after the disappointing 1-1 draw with bottom club Ipswich as Albion take drastic action amid fears they could miss out on an immediate return to the Premier League.
Albion’s decision has stunned neutrals and some Baggies supporters but Telegraph Sport understands there have been serious concerns over results and performances since November.
The club were relegated from the top-flight last season and possess a £38m wage bill – believed to be one of the top three highest in the Championship – while they resisted bids for players including Jay Rodriguez, Craig Dawson, Matt Phillips and Jake Livermore in the summer, in a bid to give Moore the best possible chance to earn promotion.
But Albion have won just four of their last 12 league games, losing against promotion rivals Leeds and Sheffield United, and there are even fears that the club could fall out of the play-off places.
Mark Jenkins, the chief executive, and the Albion board feel the club should be competing for automatic promotion with the squad available.
